The creative force behind this website is the English photographer Catherine Illsley, who is based in Düsseldorf. Having been fascinated by the great outdoors from a young age, it was a logical progression for Catherine to pick up a camera and begin recording its beauty. This fascination is ideally complemented by a love of travel and, since those early beginnings, she has honed her skills both at home and further afield to create a wide-ranging portfolio spanning Great Britain, Germany and far beyond.

Catherine aims to capture the essence of a scene as well as a "sense of place", wherever she is. She uses largely digital equipment to do so. Digital technology has changed photography in a fundamental way, but Catherine believes that computer processing should only be used to help communicate this essence - she remains true to the principle of reproducing a scene faithfully. While images created by C. Illsley Photography have been edited to a certain extent, all types of alienation have been avoided.
